On November 19th the AA hosted the annual

Silver Gala

and welcomed over 120 guests to our home in Bedford Square with AA spirit embedded into the walls, the music and the good company we shared. We would like to thank all who attended and donated towards the Silver Gala.

The night was a great success with over £50,000 raised so far towards AA Public Programmes and Publications. We announced the new AA Wood Lab, made possible by a generous donation from John Makepeace, and launched Architecture in Translation with an exhibition of donated works currently on view at the AA until 6 December. We held a silent auction on the night and there are still a few items available for you to bid on.

Programme

Tuesday 19 November
36 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3ES
Attire: Black tie (or a translation of it)
6.30pm Drinks reception and exhibition opening

7.30pm Dinner and performances

9.30pm Auction and after party

The 2019 Silver Gala celebrated the launch of Architecture in Translation, and raised funds to support Architectural Association Public Programmes and Publications. Voices from the AA and beyond came together to eat, celebrate our history and debate our future over delicious food and wine and a programme of performances.

Architecture in Translation

Today there are 7111 languages spoken around the world but it is estimated that by the turn of the century nearly half of the world’s languages are likely to be extinguished. At the AA we have students from more than 81 nationalities and we speak more than 40 languages. To celebrate and build on this diversity, and to recognise the value of language in the production of space and ideas, this year we are launching Architecture in Translation, a project that aims to build a multilingual and multicultural approach to architecture today.

When time,

distance and the material world are being neurotically rearranged

and dissolved by digital systems the

Summer Garden Party

becomes an essential tool

for not only having your brain tattooed by the work of 779 students

but for giving support to Scholarships and Bursaries

for future creative work at the AA

The Summer Garden Party is a new tradition we are starting this year: an evening of music, food and good company in celebration of our shared future and past. It will mark a historical moment for the school and bring together our wider community for what promises to be an unforgettable night. The evening is in support of Scholarships and Bursaries for future generations of deserving students.

Carefully curated wine, mead and beer from the most sustainable organic producers we could find and ethically minded food – delicious canapes followed by a light summer buffet.

DJ Misha will be spinning records while you whisper to blackberries and murmur to birches
