Following on from the exhibition opening at the AA Birthday party on 9th October, Didier Faustino will give a special Gallery Talk at 3pm on his exhibit Undomesticated Places in the AA Gallery & Bedford Square.
The talk is open to all with complimentary drinks and refreshments served, so please come join us for our first Gallery Talk of the 2015/16 academic year.
Undomesticated Places presents two projects by the French artist and architect Didier Faustino – one inside the AA gallery and one in the public space of Bedford Square.
The first part of the exhibition, inside the building, takes the form of an immersive space in which the video triptych Exploring Dead Buildings 2.0 is shown on giant screens. The spectator is invited to lie down to enjoy the images of a performance realised on the occasion of the 12th Havana Biennial. On the screens an explorer with a video device fixed on his metallic armour raises a sensitive archaeology of the School of Ballet, a building designed by Vittorio Garatti in the early 60s.
Outside, in Bedford Square, a second rendition of This is not a Love Song (created for the first time in 2014, in Meudon, France) will be built. This monochromatic performance-architecture will be a platform placed in the urban environment to welcome everyday events to activate its meaning. This installation provides a site for action, in the manner of Speaker’s Corner.
The exhibition presents two approaches to performative practice in the linked fields of contemporary art and architecture – representative of Didier Faustino’s obsession with the site of the body in private and public space.
